OSHA Clears Contractor in Crane Accident
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cleared a contractor of wrongdoing related to a crane that tipped over on Aug. 15, dropping a 74-ton steel beam onto Pennsylvania’s state Route 15.
The investigation concluded that the company involved, New Enterprise Stone & Lime, did not violate any regulation when the accident occurred. According to PennLive, the crane operator was strapped into his seat, and was not injured while the beam was being positioned.
The 74-ton beam was a slider beam that would have been used to slide concrete bridge beams into place.
Additional findings cannot be released at this time, because they may affect PennDOT’s position in litigation or claims, according to spokeswoman Erin Waters-Trasatt.
