Five mobile elevated work platform models have come to the North American market: the electric AETJ 49 and AETJ 43, and diesel-powered ATJ 46, ATJ 46+, and MAN’GO 33. All five new models are engineered to comply with proposed North American ANSI standards. Significant design changes for the North America models include modifications to the electrical system, swing door on the basket, and new Tier-4 engines for the diesel models.
The ATJ diesel-powered range was introduced in Europe in 1992, utilizing components from Manitou’s telescopic handlers, such as limited-slip differentials, four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and heavy-duty booms. New to all markets is the ATJ 46, which introduces new features, including an automatic start-and-stop system and a 24-horsepower Kubota engine that requires no exhaust treatment. The ATJ 46 has a platform height of 45 feet 11 inches and an up-and-over reach of 27 feet 3 inches at a height of 24 feet 2 inches. The new ATJ 46 has standard four-wheel drive, rough-terrain tires, 14 inches of ground clearance, and a 500-pound platform capacity.
The ATJ 46+ is designed for high-capacity jobs, says the company, with a large platform that can handle up to 900 pounds without restriction. The platform reaches to 45 feet 6 inches and has a horizontal outreach of 28 feet 3 inches. Standard features include rough-terrain tires, 17 inches of ground clearance, four-wheel drive, and four-wheel steering.
The diesel-powered MAN’GO 33 is designed for the rental market. The unit is 5 feet 10 inches wide and weighs 9,150 pounds. The Manitou-designed articulation system uses a single lift cylinder to keep the machine compact, says the company, and to allow for simple, fast operation. The platform holds 500 pounds and reaches heights up to 32 feet 6 inches.
The electric-powered AETJ 49 is 5 feet 9 inches wide and reaches to 48 feet 11 inches vertically and 30 feet 11 inches horizontally. The AETJ 43 is a smaller model, with an overall width of 4 feet 11 inches, a platform height of 42 feet 7 inches, and a horizontal reach of 24 feet 11 inches. Both machines are fitted with 48-volt traction batteries.
