Concrete Truck Overturns, Spills Oil

April 3, 2019

A Rockingham Redi-Mix concrete truck traveling east on Virginia's Route 211 overturned on a sharp curve on March 28, injuring the driver and causing traffic disruptions lasting into the evening, according to published reports.

At 6 p.m., an emergency team was able to hoist the separated mixing drum of the truck by crane and lower it onto a semi-trailer. Oil and other material spilled onto the highway had to be cleaned with absorbent and sand before authorities could reopen the highway.

The driver was transported to Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton. A first responder on the scene told Rappahannock News that the man was shaken, but fortunate to only have “mainly scratches.”

Heather Foltz told the Rappahannock News that she was driving in her car just behind the cement truck when the accident happened.

“He [the driver] was in front of us and went around the curve first and he was already upside down by the time we got there,” Foltz said. “I hope he’s OK. He was still in the truck.”
