Caterpillar D6 XE Dozer

Nov. 21, 2018

The 215-horsepower Caterpillar D6 dozer offers either electric drive (XE) or fully automatic powertrain, with operating weight ranging from 47,949 to 53,126 pounds. With both drives, the operator sets the ground speed and maximum power is provided based on load.

The Cat D6 XE dozers have up to 35 percent better fuel efficiency compared to the predecessor D6T, according to the company. Electric drive provides constant power to the ground, continuous push, and maneuverability. It has 90 percent fewer rotating parts than a traditional drive, which contributes to a 70-percent reduction in rebuild cost, the company says.

The fully automatic version has a four-speed transmission that provides up to 20 percent better fuel efficiency than the three-speed D6T, according to the company, with the auto shift working up and down the entire working range.

The Caterpillar D6 dozer’s structure is stronger and lighter than the predecessor, enabling it to grade without a counterweight. A wide gauge LGP variable power angle tilt (VPAT) design, with 36” centered shoes, allows for 5 psi ground pressure.

The use of various grade control technologies promise increases of up to 50 percent in productivity.

The new dozer also reduces service and maintenance costs, by up to 12 percent, due to updated components, longer service intervals, and fewer scheduled maintenance tasks.

The Heavy Duty Extended Life undercarriage features Positive Pin Retention pins and link improvements for up to 20 percent more seal life in high impact conditions.
