Cat excavator has a larger stick and bucket cylinders than its predecessor.

The 79,900-pound 335 Cat excavator is a compact radius machine capable of digging to 22 feet 11 inches and loading to 26 feet 1 inch. Powered by a 273-horsepower Cat C7.1 diesel can operate in three modes—Power, Smart, and Eco—with one-touch low idle to reduce fuel consumption up to 10 percent. Smart mode matches engine speed and hydraulic power demand and can reduce fuel consumption by 10 percent with no impact on productivity, according to the company.

The 335 Caterpillar excavator has larger stick and bucket cylinders than its predecessor, giving it 15 percent greater digging force: bucket digging force is 46,482 lb.-ft.

The Next Gen excavator has a suite of Cat technologies integrated as standard, which increase efficiency, the company says, by 45 percent over manual operation. The suite includes Cat Payload, Lift Assist, Cat Grade with 2D, Cat Grade with Assist.

Cat Remote Services allows fleet managers to troubleshoot and update machine software to improve efficiency. Remote Troubleshoot allows Cat dealers to perform diagnostic testing remotely while the 335 is operating. Remote Flash allows on-board software to be updated at the manager’s convenience and without a technician being present.

Maintenance costs can be reduced up to 20 percent over the predecessor model. All fuel filters feature 1,000-hour change intervals, as does the air intake filter with precleaners. Improved hydraulic filter performance combined with anti-drain valves to keep the oil clean during filter replacement result in a 3,000-hour filter replacement interval.

Deluxe and Premium cab are available, featuring vibration-reducing viscous mounts, adjustable operator seats, and automatic climate control. Customizable joysticks allow pattern and response settings to be saved to operator preference. Operators visibility into the trench to either side and to the rear of the excavator is enhanced by a flat engine hood design, smaller cab pillars, and large panoramic windows. Rearview and right-view cameras are standard.

All daily service points are accessed from ground level, and a new service platform toward the front of the machine features anti-skid punch plate to prevent slipping and provides easy and safe access to the upper service platform.
