Nov. 2, 2021

An investigation into construction work zone cameras in Pennsylvania has found more than 500,000 speeding violations since use of the cameras began since April 2020. The report, by Pittsburgh station WTAE, said 219,000 violations occurred in 2020, and 317,000 so far in 2021.

According to the report, warnings are issued the first time someone exceeds 11 miles per hour over the limit and tickets of increasing fines are issue for second and third offenses.

A spokesperson for the state’s Department of Transportation says the number of violations has been decreasing, which indicates the cameras are doing their jobs improving construction safety.
