A children’s pavilion opening in Tokyo, Japan, will encourage children to develop construction machines for specific sites, helping children to learn about construction equipment and its role in society and “discover the fun and excitement of the supporting technologies and innovation,” according to the Komatsu Ltd., sponsor of the venue.
Komatsu will open the pavilion at KidZania Tokyo on March 19, 2024. The company will be the official sponsor of a “Construction Equipment Development Center” pavilion, where children are “construction equipment developers.” As they develop the equipment, they will use simulators to verify their design.

The equipment that children experience at the pavilion are used in real life in a variety of applications including large-scale construction works, urban civil engineering, agriculture, forestry, mining, road maintenance, and disaster recovery, according to Komatsu.
What's in the Construction Equipment Development Center pavilion?
Experiences offered at the children’s pavilion:
- Learn about construction equipment and how it is used in society.
- Develop excavators and crawler dozers
- Operate excavators and dozers using a simulator
The pavilion allows four guests at a time and gives them about 30 minutes to interact with the display. At the end of that time, they should come away with a product-verification sheet that shows the development and verification of either an excavator or a dozer using a simulator.
